The angle of elevation is the angle between the horizontal and the line from the object to the observer's eye (the

observer, an angle of depression is the angle between the horizontal
and the observer's line of sight.These types of angles, along with concepts from
trigonometry can be used to indirectly calculate heights of objects or distances
between points. Alternatively, if the heights or distances are known, the angles
can be determined as well.

when the distance is known. Alternatively the method to find out the distance or length, given the angle of elevation or depression
is presented. For example, in case the top of a vertical cliff 40 m high, the angle
of depression of an object that is level with the base of the cliff is 34,
the object from the base of the cliff will be 59.30 m.
