 Amsco Integrated Algebra I: Addition of Signed Numbers

This lesson explains concepts of addition of signed numbers i.e. numbers with same and opposite signs. To add two numbers that have the same sign: Follow the steps as below:
• find the sum of the absolute values.
• give the sum the common sign.
To add two numbers those have different signs: Follow the steps as below,
• find the difference of the absolute values of the numbers.
• give this difference the sign of the number that has the greater absolute value.
• the sum is 0 if both numbers have the same absolute value. (More text below video...)

(Continued from above) For Example: These four examples could be written in a different form, emphasizing the distinction between the sign of a number and an operational sign, as follows: (+3) + (+5) = +8 (-3) + (-5) = -8 (+3) + (-5) = -2 (-3) + (+5) = +2 The video above will explain in detail with the help of several examples.
