Amsco Integrated Algebra I: Algebraic Terms and Vocabulary
This is a free lesson from our course in Amsco's Integrated Algebra

In this lesson, you'll learn some important new vocabulary but commonly used words that will help you to translate from English to the "language" of algebra. In algebra, we often use letters to represent numbers and here symbols are used to make statements about things, rather than using words. The more commonly used words are: Terms and Factors of a Term; Bases, Exponents, and Powers. In addition, words like- Algebraic Expressions, Variables, Coefficients, Constants etc. A term is a number, a variable, or any product or quotient of numbers and variables. For example: 5, x, 4y, 8ab, k2/5, and 5/c are terms. (More text below video...)

Using Letters to Represent Numbers Evaluating Algebraic Expressions Writing Formulas
(Continued from above) An algebraic expression that is written as a sum or a difference has more than one term. It can include variables, constants, and operating symbols, such as plus and minus signs. For example, 4a + 2b - 5c has three terms. These terms, 4a, 2b, and 5c, are separated by + and – signs, but doesn't include an equal sign. The video above will explain in detail with the help of several examples.

As many of you know, Winpossible's online courses use a unique teaching method where an instructor explains the concepts in any given area to you in his/her own voice and handwriting, just like you see your teacher explain things to you on a blackboard in your classroom. This particular lesson includes the teacher's instruction, practice questions as well as end-of-lesson quizzes for practice. As we mentioned above, you can enroll in our online course in Trigonometry by clicking here. The format of Winpossible's online courses is also very suitable for teachers who are using an interactive whiteboard such as Smartboard on Promethean in their classrooms, because the course lessons can be easily displayed on such interactive whiteboards. Volume pricing is available for schools interested in our online courses. For more information, please contact us at educators@winpossible.com.
