English: Let’s talk about the irregular verb “to have” and some sentences that use this verb in Spanish. First, let’s remember the conjugation:
Spanish: Hablemos del verbo irregular “tener” y algunas frases que usan este verbo en español. Primero, recordemos la conjugación:
English: I have, you have, you have, he has, she has, we have, you have, you have, they have, they have.
Spanish: Yo tengo, tú tienes, usted tiene, él tiene, ella tiene, nosotros tenemos, vosotros tenéis, ustedes tienen, ellos tienen, ellas tienen.
English: We use the verb “to have” plus a noun to describe a situation of something or someone:
Spanish: Usamos el verbo “tener” más un sustantivo para describir una situación de algo o alguien:
English: Let’s see the following examples:

English: The temperature is 32 Fahrenheit degrees or 0 Celsius degrees:
Spanish: La temperatura es de 32 grados Fahrenheit o 0 grados centígrados:
English: I am very cold
Spanish: Yo tengo mucho frío
English: The temperature is 86 Fahrenheit degrees or 30 Celsius degrees, I am very hot.
Spanish: La temperatura es de 86 grados Fahrenheit o 30 grados centígrados, Yo tengo mucho calor.
English: Carlos runs 5 miles and needs to drink water because… Carlos is thirsty.
Spanish: Carlos corre 5 millas y necesita tomar agua porque… Carlos tiene sed.
English: The kids play all afternoon and they forget to eat. Now they want to eat a lot because… the kids are hungry.
Spanish: Los chicos juegan toda la tarde y olvidan comer. Ahora ellos quieren comer mucho porque… los chicos tienen hambre.
English: María doesn’t sleep well. She wants to go home and rest because… María is sleepy.
Spanish: María no duerme bien. Ella quiere ir a su casa y descansar porque… María tiene sueño.
English: I’m walking very fast right now because… I’m in a rush.
Spanish: Camino muy rápido en este momento porque… Tengo prisa.
English: My friend makes a lot of money playing cards in the casino. Definitely… my friend is lucky.
Spanish: Mi amigo gana mucho dinero en el casino jugando cartas. Definitivamente.. mi amigo tiene suerte.
English: This woman is in her house by herself. She hears weird sounds and calls the police because… she is scared.
Spanish: Esta mujer está sola en su casa esta noche. Ella escucha ruidos extraños y llama a la policía porque… ella tiene miedo.
English: Carlos says it’s not necessary to practice a new language. María says that it is necessary to practice. María is right.
Spanish: Carlos dice que no es necesario practicar un nuevo idioma. María dice que sí es necesario practicarlo.María tiene razón.
English: My friends dance very well and they love to dance all the time. Now they want to go to a night club because… they feel like dancing.
Spanish: Mis amigos bailan muy bien y les encanta bailar todo el tiempo. Ahora ellos van al club nocturno porque… ellos tienen ganas de bailar.
English: This kid was born in 1999. Now it’s 2009. This kid is 10 years old.
Spanish: Este chico nació en 1999. Ahora es 2009. Este chico tiene 10 años de edad.
